A man is off to court after speeding while under the influence of alcohol in the Hunter Valley.

Hunter Valley Traffic and Highway Patrol were conducting speed enforcement on the New England Highway at about 9:40pm on Friday when they detected a utility allegedly travelling 150km/hr in the sign posted 100km/hr zone in Lower Belford.

Police stopped the Nissan Navara, and the 23-year-old male driver returned a positive reading on a breath test. He was arrested and taken to Singleton Police Station, where he allegedly returned a breath analysis reading of 0.107.

The man was issued a Court Attendance Notice for mid-range PCA and issued a Traffic Infringement Notice for exceed speed over 45km/h.

His licence was suspended on the spot and the registration of his vehicle was cancelled.
