The future of coal mining in the Hunter Valley is in sharp view again with the Greens calling on the Minns State Government to fast track plans away from the fossil fuel.
Greens Upper House MP and the party’s coal and gas spokesperson Cate Faehrmann is visiting the region to talk to communities about alternative employment options for those who will be impacted by ceasing coal mining.
Mount Pleasant at Muswellbrook and Hunter Valley Operations near Singleton among the current sites currently seeking planning approval to expand and continue operating until, in some cases till 2050.
She said the state and country’s net zero targets are just fanciful unless current local mine expansion plans are stopped.
