Mike Tyson tried to bribe a zookeeper to let him fight a silverback gorilla

Former heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson once tried to fight an adult male silverback gorilla.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, its not the craziest thing Mike Tyson has ever revealed but it still makes for a pretty crazy story. Mike Tyson revealed to UK newspaper, The Sun, that he once tried to bribe a zookeeper $10 000 to allow him in an enclosure to fight a giant gorilla.

The retired boxer, 52, claims that back in 1980s, he bribed a zoo worker to open an unnamed New York zoo so he and then wife, Robin Givens, could enjoy private visit of the zoo. As they approached the ape enclosure, they noticed a dominant alpha male seemingly bullying the rest of the group and Mike got the seemingly great idea that he could take on the gorilla.

"I paid a worker at New York’s zoo to re-open it just for me and Robin. When we got to the gorilla cage there was one big silverback gorilla there just bullying all the other gorillas. They were so powerful but their eyes were like an innocent infant.  I offered the attendant $10,000 to open the cage and let [me] smash that silverback’s snotbox! He declined."

While I do have a level of appreciation for Mike’s… enthusiasm, I also believe that should this hypothetical fight had gone ahead, it would have ended with Mike Tyson being straight up murdered by a gorilla.

This turn of events could have denied us this absolute pearler of a scene in The Hangover.
