In a world where terrible things happen with alarming frequency, sometimes you just need an adorable story about interspecies animal friendship and we’ve certainly hit the jackpot with Molly the Beagle and her new friend/surrogate child, Poss the Possum.

Molly the Beagle lives with her owners Elle and Sara Moyle on a farm in south-west Victoria. Very sadly though, Molly recently lost her litter of puppies at birth and, according to her owners, was devastated.

Then along came Poss.

Poss, an orphaned baby possum, somehow found its way onto the Moyle’s farm, encountered Molly and the rest is history.

Poss had hopped onto Molly’s back and Molly has been giving her new friend piggybacks ever since.

“They’ve been inseparable since,” Elle Moyle told 9News Melbourne. “I think that possum thought Mol was her mother and vice versa.”

It’s like they were meant for each other!

Molly now spends her days ambling around the farm with Poss on her back, more than happy to come along for the ride. That is, when Poss isn’t sleeping. Possums are mostly nocturnal and Poss spends a good chunk of her day sleeping in the trees while Molly hangs out nearby.

It’s legit possum magic.
