The fun police are at it again and this time the victim is the birthday cake. More and more schools are banning parents from bringing a birthday cake to school, not just because of food allergies, but because it's seen as a distraction for students and takes time away from lessons.
One of the latest schools to can the cake is Wamberal Public School on the Central Coast, with parents receiving a newsletter from the school and the P&C spokeswoman saying 'The days of cakes in schools are finished'. Other people have spoken up in disagreement, saying that especially for younger children, celebrating birthdays teaches social skills to children like sharing.
